A lot of acoustic guitars on the market don’t come with a built in pickup, allowing you to play through an amp. However, this is a good thing. Did you know if you invest in an aftermarket pickup system, you will get a better quality product for less cost.
When guitars are built, pickup makers are either hired out to build a cheaper generic pickup system, or charge a higher rate for the cost of the pickup and installation. This is hidden in the retail price of the guitar. Our advice, when buying a guitar, is spend your money on getting the best guitar you can.
By purchasing an aftermarket pickup you can get a system that will give you a clear, transparent representation of your guitar. Two of our favorite pickup makers are Fishman and LR Baggs.
